Virtual Training

Covid 19 has turned the world upside down and inside out which is causing online services to grow. Virtual training, existed before Covid 19, but it is now the way to go for convenience and safety. It is the provision of personal or group training services from a distance and involves communication with a patient who is remotely located from the primary trainer providing service.

It incorporates the use of technology such as video conferencing, email, apps, web-based communication or wearable technology.

WHEN IS AN APPROPRIATE TIME TO CHOOSE VIRTUAL TRAINING OVER TRADITIONAL TRAINING?

With gyms being closed in many cities and with social distancing practices in place, this is an excellent time to consider virtual training as an option.

It would also be an appropriate choice if a client wasn’t able to easily access in person training because they live in a remote area or because they want the knowledge of an expert who is not physically accessible to them.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO TRADITIONAL TRAINING?

With virtual training appointments we can:

  • Do a full fitness baseline assessment

  • Perform a functional movement examination

  • Evaluate strength

  • Prescribe exercises and stretches – with supporting photos/videos

  • Correct exercise form and provide cues to perform them more effectively

  • Help train another person to assist you with exercises or stretches

  • Keep you accountable

WHAT DOES A VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSION LOOK LIKE?

During a typical virtual session, I will assess your fitness and address any questions or concerns you might have. We will work together to establish your goals and collaboratively set a plan on how you are going to achieve them. I will advise you on simple strategies that will lead to impactful changes. I will build an individualized exercise program for you that may address any specific movement dysfunctions, injuries or weaknesses. The exercises may focus on mobility, strengthening, stabilization, co-ordination, balance or self mobilizations. They will help you set goals and keep you accountable and motivated to reach them.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR A VIRTUAL TRAINING SESSION?

For your virtual session, you will require a device that is connected to the internet with camera and audio capabilities such as a computer, tablet or smart phone.  Before your appointment begins you will want to make sure you have read the email instructions from me on how to connect to your virtual session and to test your connection. If this is your first session with me you may also have some intake forms to complete.

You will want to find an open space in your home that will allow you to do exercise on the ground, against a wall, sitting or standing. Wear loose and comfortable clothes.  Workout attire is recommended. You will want to gather any fitness equipment that you may have such as a Yoga Mat, Resistance bands, Small weights, Soup cans, Stability ball, etc.
